Welcome to Norfolk, Virginia
Norfolk is the core urban area of Hampton Roads with approximately 246,000 residents. It is bordered by the Chesapeake Bay and Elizabeth river. Norfolk has a vibrant downtown that includes a variety of residential housing opportunities. Norfolk is known for its restaurants, nightlife, and cultural arts amenities. It is one of the oldest cities in Hampton Roads and is considered to be the historic, urban, financial and cultural hub. Museums, performing art companies, festivals, and parades are part of what keeps Norfolk an exciting place in which to live. Each year, Chrysler Hall hosts a variety of performances including Broadway shows. Sports teams include the Norfolk Tides baseball team and the Norfolk Admirals ice hockey. Two universities call Norfolk home – Old Dominion University and Norfolk State University.
Norfolk has a variety of historic neighborhoods. Some neighborhoods, such as Berkley, were formerly cities and towns. Others, such as Willoughby Spit and Ocean View, have a long history tied to the Chesapeake Bay. Today, neighborhoods such as Downtown, Ghent and Fairmount Park have transformed with the revitalization that the city has undergone.
